Parnassus Books is thrilled to welcome Patti Callahan Henry author of The Favorite Daughter in conversation with Lisa Patton.
Ten years ago the unthinkable happened. Lena Donohue experienced the ultimate betrayal by her sister—and on her wedding day, no less. A betrayal so profound and painful that the only way she knew how to survive it was to run, something she hasn’t stopped doing since. Now, having reinvented herself as a travel writer based in New York, it feels like she might be able to avoid her past forever. But of course, history has a way of returning to the present.
When her father’s health begins to fail, Lena must return to her hometown of Watersend, SC, where she has no choice but to put aside her own heartbreak and work with her estranged sister and younger brother to prepare for the worst. As Alzheimer’s rapidly claims their father’s precious memories, the siblings find themselves in a race against time to learn all they can about his life before it’s too late. But things take an unexpected turn when they stumble upon a life-shattering secret from his past that none of them could have predicted. Read More

Update from Patti —
Most of the past two weeks was spent with my hands flying and my mouth open in photos (this one at my last stop of the two week marathon at Parnassus @parnassusbooks with my beloved @lisapattonbooks ).
And yet I am so grateful to every single bookstore and reader and photo-taker in the past two weeks. I had this lofty goal of posting something about each stop and each crowd and each store, and soon found that it was enough just to get from place to place in one piece.
Through monsoons, a tiny fender bender where I sat on the side of the highway in hundred degree heat for an hour (because the police couldn’t find us), airplane delays, rental cars that looked like they’d been used in a murder, friends taking me in and feeding and loving me, cities that enchanted, libraries that were magical, readers who took the time to see me and tell me what the books meant to them, family who travel and show up.
I write books for loads of reasons, but hearing from the readers, seeing their faces…it means everything to me and I am grateful. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. @foxtale_book_shoppe @eagleeyebooks @litchfieldbooks @e.shaver_bookseller @buxtonbooksandtours @mjudsonbooks @cuyahogalib @briellelibrary @booktowne @andersonsbookshop @booksamillion @alabamabooksmith @lexcolibrary @doylestownbookshop @berkleypub @daniellekeir_ I could not have done this without you.
LISA PATTON spent over twenty years in the music industry before discovering her passion for novel writing. A breast cancer survivor, Lisa is now the bestselling author of WHISTLIN’ DIXIE IN A NOR’EASTER, YANKEE DOODLE DIXIE, and SOUTHERN AS A SECOND LANGUAGE is the third and final book in what Library Journal calls, “the beloved Dixie series.” Lisa’s fourth novel, RUSH, set inside a fictional sorority house at Ole Miss, provides not only a gaze inside the most exclusive sorority Recruitment in the country, but at the lives of both the sisters and the all African American staff.
Born and raised in Memphis, Lisa spent time as a Vermont innkeeper until three sub-zero winters sent her speeding back down South. The proud mother of two sons and a little Havanese pooch named Rosie, she and her husband live in Nashville, Tennessee. Read More
